White tea is presumed to produce similar benefits. Studies show white tea may prevent enzyme activity that breaks down elastin and collagen. This breakdown may lead to wrinkles. White tea plant extracts are thought to protect the structural proteins of the skin, specifically elastin and collagen. The two key properties that make White Tea an anti-aging ingredient are: antioxidant (ability to neutralize harmful oxygen free radicals) and the ability to inhibit matrix metalloproteinase (MMP). MMP are enzymes that degrade key proteins of the skin matrix, particularly collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles and loss of firmness.
